Envisioning the Future

Envisioning the Future took place in 2003 in Pomona, California and is the most comprehensive documentation of the participatory art pedagogy of internationally renowned artist Judy Chicago. Nine facilitators trained by Judy Chicago and Donald Woodman worked under their supervision with eight groups to create diverse images of the future. Working in a variety of media, the artists explored a broad range of issues including globalization, ethics, the environment, spirituality, merging, cultures and the possibility of change in images that reflected a wide spectrum of perspectives – from the humorous to the apocalyptic. This three disk DVD set provides a brief summary of the project along with a more expanded 35 minute overview; footage of the gala opening; documentation of the collaborative process of each group and also of the performances that were created to run concurrently in each exhibition venue.
